Sunday, Oct. 6, is National Coaches Day.
High school coaches sacrifice a lot of time to help their student-athletes in all aspects of life. From the sport they play to their everyday lives, coaches are always there for their athletes.
We here at the Bulldog Republic asked several Alexander athletes to share their thoughts and appreciation of their coaches. Here’s what the athletes said about their respective coaches.
Middle blocker Andrea Nunez, volleyball
“My coaches are the greatest people of all time. They have what every student-athlete needs in their life. The comfort, the love and the friendship we have with them is like no other. They help us prepare for real life situations, which creates open communication and a sense of teamwork with my teammates. They truly are the most excellent individuals. I can’t wait to complete my last season under their outstanding guidance.”
Offensive tackle Will Omenski, football
“I really enjoy coming in every day. I feel that our coaches really care about building relationships with us. They let us have fun but stay hard on us when it’s time to work. Makes coming into practice everyday something to look forward to.”
Pitcher/First baseman Andrew De Leon, baseball
“Alexander’s coaching staff has taught many lessons on and off the field. Since the moment I came in as a freshman till this day as a senior, they have taught me how to play fair, work hard and become a better man in the future. Without their trust and guidance, I wouldn’t be the man I am today. Not only am I grateful for the baseball coaching staff, but I’m honored to say I have played under them all four years.”
Outfielder Jeremy Gabrillo, baseball
“The baseball coaching staff has developed me over the last three years and everyday they continue to push me to become a better baseball player.”
Quarterback/Wide receiver Julius Vaughn, football
“Having these coaches is special. They put a lot of trust into me to lead the team this past week, even with only three days of practice. It’s known we could’ve easily ran the ball with our offensive line alone, but these coaches having the trust in me to be able to throw the ball is what sets them apart from other coaches. Their level of trust and bond with the team as players allow us to build that trust that they know that if someone goes down, we have someone that we know can step up and lead the team.”
Outside hitter Bella Ramirez,volleyball
“Coach Bermea instilled in us the true meaning of resilience, guiding us to face challenges with strength and determination. The entire coaching staff goes above and beyond, often staying up late to find ways to help us grow, not just as athletes, but as individuals. I don’t just see them as mentors, I consider them my extended family and I look forward to all the ways they’ll continue to guide me toward excellence each day.”
Offensive tackle Luis Garcia, football
“It’s a real good feeling having coach Garcia depend on us while we’re dealing with injuries in the backfield and he has trust in us to take control of the game. Also, much appreciation to coach (Rick) Villarreal having us face repercussions when we have penalties. It really helps us perfect our craft.”
