Welcome to this week’s Coach’s Corner with Alexander head football coach Edwin Garcia.
This will be a weekly series as Garcia will provide valuable insight on last week’s result and this week’s upcoming matchup.
Here’s the latest edition of Coach’s Corner with head coach Edwin Garcia.
You bounced back and defeated Del Rio last week. What did you see on film from that game?
We have challenged our boys all year to put together in all phases. I was excited to see us do that during this game. As always, we have been trying our best to find the right pieces to our puzzle and we will continue to do so week by week. This week we did well placing our boys in the correct spots. Credit goes to our coaching staff and our boys for executing to the best of our abilities.
How do you go about building off last week’s success?
Well now we have to stack up weeks. We need to continue to grow. There is still plenty of season left. We will keep our head down and continue chopping wood. That’s all we can do, continue to work hard and take care of what we can control.
What have you seen on film from Medina Valley?
Medina Valley is a well coached team. They have given teams problems with their offense this year. They run a similar style of offense and defense we have seen already multiple times this year. We are hoping our boys have seen it enough that we are able to hone in our keys and play fast.
The defense has played lights out this year. What do you think has contributed to their elite level?
I believe our defense has done a tremendous job preparing our boys every week. Our boys have bought into our scheme and just want to do their best for our team. They will do anything and everything they can to get us the ball back so our offense can put up some points. I think our senior leadership of Louie Quintero and Frankie Fuentes has done a great job of keeping everyone focused on our team. We are counting on them to continue leading our defense during our last part of the season.
What are the keys to victory this week?
We have to continue to improve on phases of the game. It is important for us to stack up weeks of improvement. This week our focus has been to improve on our execution. We have been a good road team this year, but this one is what we have been preparing for all season long. We need to go in and make this a business trip. We need to go do our job and get a big win on the road.
